Why Warriors springs out of the work of Richard Trudgen who wrote Why Warriors Lie Down and Die. (www.whywarriors.com.au)
“The Blackwood Reconciliation Group meets at 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of the month in the Dene room of the Blackwood Uniting Church. On November 4th BRG will present Wayne Munster from the “Why Warriors” organisation to talk about the unique perspective they have in supporting Yolngu of Arnhem land. All Welcome. Contact Brian Wicks 0466426335 for more details.
Our December 2nd meeting will be screening of the short feature film “Wongai Warrior”. ‘Wongi Warrior’ is an imaginative short film creatively incorporating a retelling of the life, pain and hopes of Aboriginal World War II hero Jim Brennan and his family. From the deserts of North Africa in World War II to the beautiful land of Western Australia, this film is a ground-breaking collaboration of independent filmmakers and Indigenous community elders to give a voice to the stories of this land. The filmmaker is a former Coromandel Valley resident, Josh Loymeyer, who works for YWAM in Perth. I will have some more promotional material in November to support this.
