On Friday December 4, the First Friday Friends hosted a Christmas lunch with the guest speaker The Rev Dr Gillies Ambler. He spoke of two aspects of his work – his book Grief Wounds, Love Heals, which is available in the Church Library and covers aspects of grief and how love helps with the journey through grief. Gillies also spoke on his related work in a women’s shelter.
Thank you to Marlene Lehmann for her generous donation from her special shopping bags, the Tuesday Bible Study Group and the Friday Friends, and individuals at the lunch for their magnificent contributions to the shelter. With this money, $5 and $10 notes were handed to the Centre to give out appropriately. They had run out of cash and vouchers. Some of the money has also gone into $20 Foodland and Woolies vouchers. The rest is saved for 2016, January is always a high demand time to help women with little or no money. He asks that the groups and the people at the lunch are thanked for outstanding Jesus-like generosity.
