Batch Cooking
In Term 2, we will be running a “Batch Cooking” program as part of the Community Classes. The Batchcooks is a program that serves 8-10 people at a time and provides an opportunity for a group of socially isolated and disadvantaged people to come together to cook, socialise and enjoy nutritionally sound meals.
The program will run in our kitchen and will run on a fortnightly basis. To be eligible to participate the participant must hold a pension / concession card. The cost for pensioners for participation is approximately $20. This cost will provide the participant with six meals, one to eat together and five to take home.
The plan is to target a vulnerable group that is often disadvantaged or socially excluded due to issues such as accessibility and/or logistics, resources, education, social networks and/or civic participation.
The goal of this program is to actively teach and encourage the participants to take up the new skills and practices of cooking healthy nutritious, affordable food at home for themselves, their family and their friends.
If you are interested or know of anyone who would benefit from this program please do not hesitate to see Jacqui in the office or send her an email: office@blackwooduc.org.au.
