The Blokes in the Shed
A group of retired men meet in the shed at the rear of the Belair Uniting Church every Wednesday morning from 9.30am-12pm. They repair and restore bikes which are then usually donated to good causes with some sold to recoup costs.
In the past, bikes have been taken to the APY lands, donated to the Diabetic Association and to a Sudanese pastor in the northern suburbs to enable him to ride instead of walking up to 20km to visit his flock. Many bikes have also helped refugees access jobs when public transport isn’t available. These bikes have also been donated to schools for their students.
They would love some more helpers. You don’t have to be an expert in bike maintenance – on the job training is provided.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in joining this great band of men please ring Mark Hartridge (8278 7452) or Lynona Hawkins (8278 3870) for more information.
