Blackwood Uniting Church is a Retreat on days declared as a “Catastrophic” bushfire risk. The Church is within the CFS designated “safer precinct” area and will be open to the public from around 9am until as late as necessary. At least two Church members will be rostered to supervise those who wish to use this community service. Basic facilities will be available for those who come, emergency equipment is provided, and the CFS is aware that the Church is a retreat.

Church members planning to “leave their home” on high fire risk days are invited to volunteer to act as Supervisors at the Church. Training and check lists outlining your responsibilities will be provided. Please contact Russell Grear or Bob Lyon if you are willing to help or to obtain more information.

BUC Policy on Declared Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating Days

Activities conducted within the Blackwood Uniting Church will continue to operate on days declared to be Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating Days and the church will open as a Retreat for members of the community. Leaders of Church (and other) groups are strongly encouraged to, with their members, discuss and decide whether on “Catastrophic” days they will meet or not.  However, each person needs to take responsibility for their own decisions and make that decision clear to the other members of their group.
