Playgroup Christmas Break-up
On Monday 11th December Roundabout Playgroup finished the year with a Christmas session in keeping with around our Australian animals theme for the term. We had nearly a full house, with 18 children and their parents, grandparents and carers coming to hear the Christmas story, sing some Christmas songs, make a Baby in a Manger envelope craft and eat some yummy Christmas goodies to finish with. At story time we looked at the characters in the Nativity set and explained who they were before we read Mem Fox’s Wombat Divine.
We then gave each child an Australian animal puppet and sang Christmas in the Scrub and Bruce accompanied us on his recorder as we sang a couple of Christmas carols. Rev Michael came to present 5 children with their graduation certificates, as they move on to Kindy or school (and one to Samoa), including Judy Lower’s granddaughter Mimi, and our own Ben English who after 4 years at playgroup is now moving on to attend Kindergarten. Conversation and fellowship over morning tea was so convivial we had trouble getting them to finish and pack up. Each child was given a painted wooden Australian animal ornament to take home to hang on their tree.
The families expressed their thanks and appreciation for all we do at Playgroup, and my thanks go to the team who turn up every week to help set up, pack up, provide morning tea and especially to Judy Lower for providing songs and music every week (and much appreciated support); Jackie O for managing the database and being on the welcoming desk, and Penny Harper for filling in whenever she’s needed to fill a temporary hole. Truly a team effort.
We look forward to resuming in February with a good number of families returning.
