The Bike Shed Goings On.
In keeping with our philosophy that giving to those in need is our main focus, the Bike Shed recently came to the assistance of a primary school in the southern suburbs.
Hosting a push bike themed day coinciding with the last day of the school term and the Tour DE France this primary school came to understand that a significant number of students did not own a push bike and could not readily participate in the day’s events. Bike Shed to the rescue!
We were asked if we could assist with the loan of a few bikes for the day. Loan? Never, we said! How about we give them to you for the students to keep? And would you like helmets and fries with that? It took a little while for them to accept that we were serious about the bikes and helmets and that we were very willing to give without question. We did fail to mention that we needed the room in the shed and that they were actually doing us a huge favour, but that’s another story, so give we did.
Last Tuesday we opened the door and basically said help yourself. We now know that it is possible to get 15 bikes in the back of a Ute and the back seat of the teacher’s car (looking for a Guinness record for push bike cramming here). The teacher and helper were overjoyed that people were so willing to give and equally impressed that all the bikes within the shed had been donated by the wider community initially.
We can only hope that they will want more so that we can give more.
Cheers.
