Act for Peace – Christmas Bowl Appeal
We are launching the Christmas Bowl Appeal this Sunday, 29th November. Each week our donations go to a different cause and this week we are raising money to help communities recover and rebuild in Vanuatu. Please read through the material below for more information. The positive impact of our donations to this appeal can help the people of Vanuatu to prepare for the future.
Helping communities recover and rebuild in Vanuatu
Tropical Cyclone Pam was the worst natural disaster to hit Vanuatu in decades. As well as destroying homes, there was little food and water left. Nearly all crops were destroyed. The essential work of rebuilding after the devastation and getting prepared for future disasters is more challenging than ever. – See the rest of this story by clicking this link – www.actforpeace.org.au/Christmas-Bowl/About/Stories/Vanuatu – and you can watch the video below.
The difference your gifts to the Christmas Bowl are making:
Nine months after the disaster, Act for Peace continues to work with our local partner, Vanuatu Christian Council, to help local communities with the long process of recovery; rebuilding livelihoods and ensuring communities are better prepared for future natural disasters.
Your gifts to the Christmas Bowl can help the people of Vanuatu to prepare for the future.
Key facts:
Rising sea levels– partly due to climate change – are making island nations such as Vanuatu more vulnerable to storms and amplify the impact of tropical cyclones.
$1,200 can help train people in Vanuatu in how to prepare for and survive a natural disaster.
