At the June SA Presbytery & Synod Meeting, Rev Denise Champion and Rev Mark Kickett put forward three proposals for consideration concerning the nuclear waste repositories. One of these may be located on Adnyamathanha land in the Flinders Ranges/Ikara area which runs east from the edge of Lake Torrens, through the northern Flinders Ranges, approaching the South Australian border with NSW. The specific place mentioned in reports is Barndioota.

Two of the proposals were passed at the meeting; one was not. A proposal that there be a special Presbytery and Synod meeting for further discussion of the issues, including some external speakers, was passed.
This meeting will be held on Friday, 19 August 2016, from 6.30pm to 9pm at the Adelaide West Uniting Church on Sir Donald Bradman Drive (click this link for a map). All, not just members of the Presbytery & Synod, are invited to attend. This is an important meeting; the UCA is in a covenant relationship with the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress and we are being asked for our support for our brothers and sisters.
Rev Phil, Tim Lee and Anne Magarey, the BUC representatives at the P&S, plan to attend. They each have a vote on any proposals that arise from the meeting. Please do not hesitate to contact Anne on 0418841545 if you wish to discuss the issues or to express your opinion.
