FROM CHURCH COUNCIL
FROM CHURCH COUNCIL
Church Council met on Wednesday August 16th and had on its Agenda three (3) significant matters that we wished to up-date the Community on
[Phil spoke to these in worship on Sunday 20th. This record is provided to confirm that and make these matters available to people unable to be there that morning].
- Family MInistries Review
We continue to work with three (3) specific recommendations of Rev Cogs Smith’s Report
Recommendation 3 – Forming deeper partnerships with families so that over time it’s inclusive and they can develop ownership. .
Recommendation 4: As well as 11.00 Traditional, 9.15 Family Friendly & Contemporary, consider Messy Church All Age as BUC’s third worship service, our provision for ‘families worship”
Recommendation 8: Keep looking for a family worker.
An extended Council Executive Meeting on July 19th noted that we seek a person who can see the vision of BUC, relates well to families and is good at logistics. That meeting noted the potential of this being someone ordained or in training for Uniting Church ministry. The costs of such a person would be beyond our existing Budget and therefore would require further giving and/or fund-raising by the Community.
- Secondment of Rev Phil Hoffmann to fill the need for a Chaplain at Westminster School
The Uniting Church Pastoral Relations Team (Presbytery/Synod) believes that with a new Principal to commence in fourth term and significant school events in that time it cannot afford to leave this placement vacant and has asked that Rev Phil be released on a half-time basis [0.5] for the period September 1 – December 31 to act as Supply Minister in this capacity.
Arrangements will be made to supplement ministry here at Blackwood during that time with Rev Dr Adrian Brown available 1 Oct – December to support the community.
- Blackwood Round-a-bout
Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (State Government) plans for a new and larger round-a-bout’ re-located slightly east of the existing one, and perhaps requiring acquisition of portions of Blackwood Uniting land. Plans made available for review and comment
