In 2022, our overarching Messy Church theme will be Jesus’  twofold commandment: Love God, and love your neighbour as yourself. This is sometimes abbreviated as “love God, love neighbour” but this is to ignore “yourself” as part of the commandment. We can only love others and God as well as we love ourselves. The commandment to love is, in the words of Uniting Church minister Les Underwood, “A 3-legged stool”: if any one of those legs is removed or weakened, the stool no longer supports any weight.

At Messy Church, we wish to make substantial this metaphor, by creating an actual 3-legged stool. Hence we are wondering whether one of our wonderful BUC handymen might be able to create a short 3-legged stool for Messy Church use in 2022? Perhaps “me” “others” and “God” could be carved on the 3 legs? Perhaps a plaque on the seat bearing the commandment might be possible?
