Mitcham Hills Inter Church Council (MHICC)
This Council consists of nine local churches whose reps attend bimonthly meetings which are held in the various churches in the Mitcham Hills area. Bev Eccleston and Carys Penny are the Reps for this Church.
One of the main functions is to support the Pastoral Care Workers in five local schools. We are the oldest district in Adelaide as we have operated for 60 years. During the last two years, 30 new schools in S.A. have employed Pastoral Care Workers with the support of churches and School Councils. The government passed a bill which allowed Schools to do this if they wished. The PCW’s provide counselling for children, parents and staff, programs for socialization, lunch time activities and special events for Easter and Christmas, among other things. Our church is hosting a thanksgiving and dedication service for the Pastoral Care Workers on Tuesday July 26 at 7.30pm. Please note the date in your calendars and come to show your support.
The MHICC has also been responsible for Beacon which has provided support for those in need. It desperately needs a new voluntary Coordinator which requires several hours of work per week. As there is no coordinator at present, a modified amount of support is offered with food bags available from the Blackwood Church of Christ each working day except Monday until a new coordinator can be found. If anyone would like to talk about the co-ordinator’s position, please ring Maxine Moore through the Blackwood Church of Christ Office 8278 8666 or email maxandal@bigpond.net.au
