ONLINE EVENT: “Acknowledging Acknowledgements”
12.00pm-1.30pm Monday 10th October
Are you of settler/colonist heritage?
If you had to stand up & make an Acknowledgment to Country – how might it sound?
Hopefully it would be full of genuine intention & it might include a yarn. Perhaps you’ll relay who your mob are, even something about why you care about Indigenous reconciliation. You might even know some Indigenous language. You might refer to land that raised you if you are from elsewhere.
Hopefully, it won’t sound like this “I acknowledge we are on the land of the XYZ people, and we pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging”.
It is time we showed some courage about doing better. No fear of mistakes, not shame and not guilt. We just need to (kindly) do a little better. We need to put some heart and soul into our acknowledgements.
Reconciliation is as much deep personal work as it is a professional or institutional requirement. This workshop will help guide you through some of the early first steps. We’ll challenge our own individual barriers and make amends with some heartfelt words.
We’ll be gathering online to have a conversation that hopefully will bring out some of the best of how we can walk together on this place.
By donation.
Proceeds will go to Rosemary Wanganeen’s Healing Centre for Griefology.
