Update from the travellers
An update from Montana. Some Yellowstone National Park hijinks…
A special day…Yellowstone National Park…
There’s a couple of bison just down the hill as we were driving past, so we pulled off the road. Got some pics and video footage before I quickly terminated the video, having realised the bison was coming up onto the road and toward our car.
The car engine was off. My driver’s side window was down and couldn’t be raised without starting the engine, something I was absolutely not going to do, as the bison walked right Karen’s passenger window, then stood a couple of centimetres in front of the car, facing away from the road, but eyeballing us.
I am aware, having watched safety videos in the Visitor Information Centre just how powerful and unpredictable bison can be, occasionally charging vehicles, as well as disemboweling the odd tourist.
Karen and I can hardly breathe as this 1000kg animal stares at us. I am NOT eyeballing him. I am absolutely NOT reaching for my camera to capture the moment. We are avoiding eye contact, holding our breath, and waiting.
Eventually, he moves off and, despite me needing a change of underwear, we get some additional footage…
