Anti-Poverty Week
This year, Anti-Poverty Weeks runs from 15-27 October.
Today in Australia, one in eight people (including one in six children) live below the poverty line.
No Australian should be living in poverty. At Uniting SA, we’re doing our part to change this.
For more than 100 years, from our very first beginnings as the Port Mission, we have always been committed to helping the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our society.
From helping the homeless, to providing food and financial support, Uniting SA today is providing more support than ever before.
With rising interest rates, cost of living pressures and soaring rental prices, unfortunately we continue to see increased demand for our services.
This year alone, 960 people were supported by our free Financial Counselling service.
More than 2,400 people accessed our Emergency Assistance program for immediate and long term financial support, and we’ve also issued over 1,500 No Interest Loans (NILs) to the value of $1.2 million.
Over 370 people were supported by our Escaping Violence Payments, which help those who are looking to leave or have recently left a violent partner.
Today, and throughout Anti-Poverty Week, and into the future, Uniting SA is committed to helping end poverty in Australia.
I invite you to explore our services, and find out more about Anti-Poverty Week.
