BUC Sensory Community Garden
“God Almighty first planted a garden. And indeed, it is the purest of human pleasures.”
– Francis Bacon (1625) Essays ‘Of Gardens’
If you haven’t already noticed there are a few landscaping changes here at the BUC. This will be the innovative BUC Sensory Community Garden. The gardening team have begun some additional work on the church property starting with a new rosemary hedge on the fence line of the carpark. This also includes the replanting of the garden bed in the children’s area with edible herbs.
Additionally, a grant was applied for, and we are so excited to inform you that it has been granted by, the City of Mitcham. This will enable us to establish a Sensory Garden of raised beds on the western portion of property adjacent to Coromandel Parade. At present the existing trees which are encroaching on the building foundations, are being removed. Once we have levelled and cleared the site, galvanised garden beds will be constructed and filled with soil in preparation for late summer plantings of herbs, scented, trailing, and climbing plants that will be especially accessible by mobility and vision challenged persons.
As these gardens will be an extension of the Memorial Wall gardens it is hoped that they also bring peace, and a pleasant place to wander and enjoy.
