Information from the Mitcham Hills Interchurch Council
At the last meeting, held on May 21, 2024, the Schools Ministry Group Manager, Vicki Woods, gave a report about the pastoral care workers in our local schools. There was a recent two day conference which was for the PCW’s and this was a success and a help to those in schools. Eden Hills does not want a PCW and has appointed a staff member internally in this role. There will be PCW thanksgiving service on Tuesday July 30th. at the church of Christ at 7.30pm and all are welcome to show their support.
Shenae Smith has been appointed to Blackwood Primary. Jenny Forder works 4 days a week at Coromandel Primary and finds her support dog “Murphy” a great help. The churches give money to support most of the PCW’s, except Izzy Rogers at Blackwood Schools, as she is community funded. There is a PCW at Hawthorndene Primary and Blackwood High School , both of whom have been there for many years. If schools want a PCW they can apply for funding through SMG.
If any individual would like to make a donation to this ministry go to smg.asn.au please select Schools Chaplaincy, then specify Mitcham Hills Area Schools.
As the Beacon service, which used to work out of the Church of Christ has closed, donations of food for homeless people may be made to Vinnies in Aberfoyle Park or through Eleonora Tryskewycz’s home 218, Coromandel Parade by appointment 0435 441474. She can advise the type of tinned food required.
Bev Eccleston has retired as representative for the Interchurch Council after many years of service and Tim Lee will now join Carys as our church rep.
A big thank you to Bev.
