Church Council discussed (Wednesday) the current move for Churches to provide a place of Sanctuary for asylum seekers facing deportation to Nauru.

There are practical and legal implications to this involvement for Churches making this offer.

At this stage we are seeking further information as to any Blackwood Uniting decision to declare this a place of sanctuary.

In the meantime we are offering support to Pilgrim Uniting Church’s declaration of sanctuary, in being available to offer practicable help in the event of asylum seekers taking up their offer.
