Brain Pickings
Earlier this week, on Monday, we marked EARTH DAY. I was reminded of this when reading Brain Pickings this week, which had as a topic the Earth Day theme of environmentalist Rachel Carson and her famous book Silent Spring.
Brain Pickings is an email/website one can subscribe to, receiving a weekly, or even twice-weekly email about the most amazing subjects and linkages (https://www.brainpickings.org/2019/04/12/rachel-carson-scripps-college-commencement/?mc_cid=3378db57d5&mc_eid=abf01d7c3c). The lady who runs the site, Maria Popova, has an incredible width and breadth of interest, and the topic for the day has a myriad of linkages to so many things. Clicking the red hyperlinks take you to other articles of hers that spawn yet further linkages. One can become a bit ‘lost,’ but in my experience it is a wonderful sort of lost-ness, where one feels this tremendous sense of interconnectedness of subjects and persons. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if I’m in the mood for an intellectual version of wandering through the bush, Brain Pickings is just the best! Michael D.
