DOFF LYON – PROFILE
“I’ve always had an interest in art. Attending Ann Bowden’s art group for many years has heightened my awareness and appreciation of the variety of styles, media used and means of interpreting subject matter. Anne has encouraged and guided me to extend my approach to painting by trying a variety of styles and techniques to broaden my art expression.
It’s only recently that I’ve had the confidence to develop my own style in the topics I’ve chosen.Currently I am enjoying working in pastels and acrylics, with some experimentation in water based oils.
I seem to be instinctively drawn to nature in my choice of subjects.
The drama of the Australian outback landscape with it’s intensity of colours – red sand, blue skies, vast spaces – seem to talk to my soul.
Being a passionate gardener brings me close to the different moods and beauty of the seasons with it’s diversity of colour in foliage, flowers and form in my garden.
Painting ‘people’ was something I’ve avoided as ‘too complicated’ but finally having ‘given it a go’ I now find it’s becoming quite a passion! As someone once told me ‘a portrait is just a landscape differently arranged’.”
